Performs entry-level customer service work. Under the direction of the Education and Exhibit Supervisor and as a member of the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center (TFFC) Education and Exhibit team, this position is responsible for assisting visitors with fishing activities and loaner tackle; assisting with the Angler's Pavilion, casting ponds, volunteers, and special events; and assisting with visitor programs at TFFC. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.
NOTE: This is a six-month long temporary position. Position will not extend past six months or August 31, 2022 regardless of the the total time employed.
Graduation from High School or GED.
Experience in natural resource education, aquatic resource education, or outdoor education.
If driving is required, applicant must possess a valid State driver's license.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Science degree in Outdoor Education, Parks and Recreation, Fisheries Science, or related degree.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of freshwater fisheries conservation and water issues;
Knowledge of age appropriate methods of communicating information;
Knowledge of fishing techniques and equipment;
Knowledge of office practices and administrative procedures;
Skill in using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook;
Skill in managing large groups of visitors;
Skill in demonstrating good work habits;
Skill in effective verbal and written communication;
Ability to identify fish species and common aquatic organisms;
Ability to follow special written and verbal instructions;
Ability to respond to public inquiries in a timely manner;
Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;
Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.
This is a six-month long temporary position. Position will not extend past six months or August 31,2022 regardless of the the total time employed;
Required to work from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday, with days off other than Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays;
Required to work on holidays, weekends, and hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., as necessary;
Required to work overtime, as necessary;
Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules, and safety procedures;
Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions;
Required to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;
May be required to operate a State vehicle;
Required travel 5% with possible overnight stays;
Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
