TPWD MISSION

To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Balmorhea State Park is a highly seasonal visitation park where staff works shifts other than 8-5. During the peak season, staff will be expected to work 8 hours shifts, ranging from early morning to late at night. Days off are generally scheduled to be back-to-back but are not on Saturday and Sunday.

Under the direction of the Office Manager, this position performs general clerical duties, and provides customer service and information to the public for Balmorhea State Park. Performs entry-level customer service work. Responsible for fee collection, license and permit sales, campsite and motel registration, and accounting for daily revenue. Operates computer, scanner, printer/copier, and credit card machines. Processes and distributes incoming and outgoing mail. Prepares reports and maintains files. Assists with maintenance and cleaning of park facilities and grounds. Assists in enforcing park rules and regulations. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Graduation from High School or GED.

Experience:

One year experience in general clerical, cash handling, or customer service.

Licensure:

If driving is required, applicant must possess a valid State driver's license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

Experience in accounting, typing, record keeping, and data entry.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of general office procedures;

Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures;

Knowledge of basic math calculations;

Skill in using MS Word, Excel, and Outlook;

Skill in effective verbal and written communication;

Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Required to work in a public park with overnight camping and day use;

Required to work 40 hours per week with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays;

Required to adjust to changing schedules;

Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions;

Required to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 30 lbs.;

Required to conform to TPWD work rules, safety procedures and dress and grooming standards;

May be required to operate a State vehicle;

Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays;

Non-smoking work environment in State buildings and vehicles.
